“I know I should eat better, I know I should exercise more, I know I need to lose weight, BUT…… Too little time! I’m too tired after work. I don’t have time to cook. Healthy food is expensive, yadda yadda yadda. I try for a while and then I go back to my old weighs…” Sound familiar? If it does, you’re not alone.
Working with the public in the service industry, I hear it all the time from my customers. I hear it from people on the street. I hear it from people in the grocery store even as they’re filling their carts with junk! People generally know what to do (or think they do), but they so rarely act in line with their true desires. We’ve all been there; we’ve all been known to get frustrated, desensitized, and then complacent. And the snowball starts rolling. Downhill. Fast!
When I heard the same frustrated sentiment from employees who are so near and dear to me, it was different. When I heard within the conversation a sincere request for help, and a true desire for change, I was instantly inspired to do everything in my power to help. Most people like to talk about change, and when they keep on doing what they’ve always been doing and still they wonder why they keep getting the same results. When someone wants to talk about change AND is willing to take action, look out! The possibilities are endless.
From one 10 minute conversation, the idea for a company-wide team effort was born. Where one person may lose hope, many can make the effort and support each other, and success will prevail. Our team effort starts this week. I’ll be sharing with you the tips and guidelines and rules that I’m asking of them. If you like, we invite you to follow along at home and share your progress!
The super simple overview is that each week we build up to a new exercise goal. You may not be able to achieve the goal at the beginning of the week, but work up to it and by the end of the week, you’ll get there! There’s also a nutritional focus each week. The idea is to weed out the junk food and detrimental foods in our diets and replace them with health-promoting foods that taste good AND do what food is supposed to do – serve us well!
